Location: On the Road to Red Deer, Alberta
The road from Calgary to Edmonton follows a native trail that ran north from Montana, across the Bow River near Calgary, terminating at Fort Edmonton. Near the half way point between Calgary and Edmonton the trail crossed the Red Deer River at a wide stony shallow used as a crossing, since ancient times, by Bison and the local Blackfoot, Plains Cree and Stoney First Nations.
