Location: The Gulf Islands, in the Strait of Georgia, British Columbia
Glaciations and erosion of Gabriola’s hard sandstone and soft shale geology are responsible for the dramatic cliffs, points, bays and stone formations enjoyed by Gabriolans. This section of shoreline includes a granite boulder left behind from the last ice age. After thousands of years of wave action the boulder has been smoothed into a pearl shape and the rolling action has formed a cradle in the soft shale.
